LET’S ROCK!!!!!

One of the most underated  actions of Trilaterum is Suppressing Fire.  It is EXTREMELY powerful when used in the right situation and being as it’s a separate action can but used in synergy for some great combos.  So lets break down suppression, suppressing fire and how you can put it to some good use.

Units that are suppressed have several effects on them.

  • Cannot Move Closer to the enemy
  • Reduced to One Action
  • When firing a -2 to hit modifier is used
  • Count their cover as one level higher
  • If attacked in a firefight, before the Firefight begins a stamina check is taken.  Failure means the unit is destroyed before combat begins.

As you can see their combat effectiveness is severely reduced, more so when you apply these negatives to a Firefight.

Let’s look at an example. A Binox infantry is ready to activate and a juicy target is sitting in the open, available to attack. This unit has not activated so moving into a firefight would be a tricky endeavor.   Here is how suppression can work to your advantage.

  1. Let’s start off with a suppressing fire on the enemy.  Remember all you need to do with a suppressing fire is Hit once.  They then take a single stamina market and are marked as suppressed.  Suppression cannot be removed until they have their next activation.
  2. You then declare the firefight and start to move in.
    1. The target unit must immediately take a stamina check or be destroyed right off the bat.
    2. If the target is successful then they may try to shoot while the unit moves in, but not only do they have -1 for the reaction fire but also a -2 from being suppressed.
    3. Let’s say the shots miss and the Binox get into combat, If the Target does get to swing back, again they are hitting back at a -2 from the suppression.

One can see how with 2 actions, a suppressing fire before the firefight can make all the difference, even on units with AI as is it still forcing a stamina roll as well as all the negatives when rolling.

Happy Gaming!
